This engine (code name EA211) is *completely* different to the 1.4 TSI twincharger that developed a very bad reputation for oil consumption as well as the standard turbocharged EA111 unit that has seemingly suffered from a few cam chain failures and was most likely the one in the Leon you tried.
The current EA888 3G engine is even more elaborate compared to both the current EA211 1.4 TSI engines and their EA111 1.4 TSI predecessors. AVL = Audi Valve Lift, just to mention one feature. The only thing which isn't available on the EA888 is ACT/COD. If you never heard of these, then don't beef about it.

The 1.4 TFSI is a great car engine that is known for its durability, efficiency, and power. However, like all cars, it is not without its problems. VW 1.5 TSI Engine Problems. The VW 1.5TSI engine is part of the VW EA211 lineup of engines which first debuted back in 2011. The 1.5L TSI EVO came out in 2016 and is still being used on many VW products. A 4-cylinder direct-injection engine with a turbocharger capable of offering between 128hp and 150hp and 147lb-ft – 184lb-ft of torque.
The two direct-injection 1.0 TSI engines feature plasma-coated cylinder blocks that replace the cast-iron cylinder liners, which reduces internal friction in the three cylinders. This lowers fuel consumption, emissions and, by better distribution and dissipation of heat in the combustion chamber, the thermal load on the engine.
